My philosophy as a writer can be summed up in two words: Just Write. Many writers struggle with perfectionism — straining to eke out the perfect words the first time around. I used to be one of them until I learned the power of what Anne Lamott calls “the shitty first draft.” Don’t get me wrong, I want my work to be strong and mechanically correct, but if I can’t get my thoughts out in the first place, there’s nothing to perfect.
More than perfection, I want my words to touch people. To make my readers laugh, make them cry healing tears, make them think, and lift them up — that’s what writing is about for me, and I believe the only way to do that is to dig deep and write raw.
So this site is about encouraging you, fellow writers, to set aside the inner critic and let the words flow until you get to the heart of your story. You might be surprised where it takes you.
